Learn How To Get The Best Auto Insurance Deal

Car insurance policyholders are being urged to be on their guard when buying used vehicles as criminals continue to use stolen log books to clone vehicles.

Vehicle information company HPI has joined forces with the Association of Chief Police Officers to warn car insurance policyholders of the danger of unwittingly buying a stolen vehicle.

“Criminals are making millions by cloning cars using the blank registration forms stolen from the DVLA and selling these vehicles on to unsuspecting members of the public,” commented Nicola Johnson, consumer services manager at HPI.

She advised car insurance policyholders buying vehicles privately to make sure they view the motor at the registered keeper’s address, as shown on the V5 document or logbook.

They should always check the history of the car, finding the chassis number and ensuring it corresponds with the vehicle identification number.

Recent research by Which? found that consumers are increasingly turning to the web when buying a vehicle.
