Does Female Car Insurance Cost More?

There was a time, when not a lot of women drove, and the cost of female car insurance was extremely high. Most of us can remember a time when our mothers or our grandmothers were afraid to drive, primarily because they were never given the chance to drive in their younger years. Because of this, they were fearful drivers and their insurance rates reflected that. But now, most women grow up driving and get their driver’s license at the same age as their male counterparts, so there is no reason why female car insurance should cost any more than male car insurance. In fact, in some age groups, females are much safer drivers. If you look at your average teenage boy, they are much more likely to be involved in an accident than a young girl, and they will pay the price in terms of a higher insurance premium.

No matter what your age, if you are a woman and looking for female car insurance, in most cases, it is not your gender or your driving record that will prevent you from getting a low premium. Your credit score is also taken into account when your premium is established, so make sure that you have done all that you can to improve your credit score before you go shopping for car insurance.

Also keep in mind that the “sensible” car that you are driving may not be the cheapest to insure. In many cases, it is the common, Japanese-made sedans that are the most stolen in this country and because of that, they are extremely expensive to insure. So, before you buy your next car, check with several car insurance companies to see how much various makes and models would be to insure – and you may be surprised by what you find out.
