Nick Heidfeld has been named as the reserve and test driver for Mercedes GP Petronas this season, car insurance policyholders may be interested to learn.
The German racer joins Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg, who are the first-choice drivers for the team, formerly known as Brawn GP.
Heidfeld said that while he would have preferred to be an active racer, he was still pleased to be joining Mercedes GP Petronas.
“I have seen how committed everyone at the team is and I feel the same. I will be doing my very best to support Michael and Nico this year,” he said.
Ross Brawn, team principal for Mercedes, said Heidfeld’s contribution would be “invaluable” and that it was a “great pleasure to have signed the driver”.
Mercedes unveiled their new Formula One car for the 2010 season last month, with both Schumacher and Rosberg attending the event at the Mercedes-Benz Museum.
