Touring Caravan Towing Safety

Posted by Justin Stewart On May - 8 - 2011

One of the biggest problems faced by caravan owners will be towing their precious vehicle. Jokes are always made about seeing caravans on the road, but in reality it’s no laughing matter – failing to understand touring caravan safety can have severe consequences, and learning how to tow properly should be a top priority. Here are a few tips to help you on your way.

• Load your caravan safely. When loading your caravan, it’s essential that everything is properly secured to prevent your possessions being strewn around the vehicle. Always distribute the weight evenly and put heavier items over the axle, and of course you should never exceed the maximum loading weight if you want to stay safe.

• Invest in extension mirrors. Because of the sheer size of your caravan and the length of vehicle that it’s going to create, having extension mirrors is vital if you want to drive safely and legally. Regular rear view mirrors simply won’t do the job, so make sure to not skimp out.

• Ensure the caravan is properly secured to your car. Consider the ac

If Gov. Sam Brownback signs into law a bill passed on Monday by the house, cities and towns in Kansas would be barred from charging drivers and their auto insurance companies for emergency response to a car crash.

If the bill is signed into law, Kansas would become the third state this year to establish a ban on accident response service fees, which have come to be known throughout the insurance industry as crash taxes. Utah instituted a similar ban in March, and Arizona did the same in April.

The accident response service fees banned in the Kansas legislation are defined as any fee levied on a driver or his or her insurer for the cost of a citys emergency response to an accident. Municipalities could still bill a driver or insurer, though, for the cost of ambulance services and the cost of other measures taken to save life, prevent suffering or disability or to protect and save property. Only fees billed strictly for the cost of the response itself would be banned under the bill.

Kansas lawmakers overwhelmingly supported the ban.

Car Insurance Most Affordable in MA for 2nd Year

Posted by Justin Stewart On May - 3 - 2011

Massachusetts residents can rest easy knowing they have the most affordable car insurance in the United States for the second year in a row.  Unfortunately for Louisiana residents, they have the least affordable car insurance for the second year in a row.  InsWeb’s 2011 Car Insurance Affordability Index ranked the 50 states from most to least affordable.  It’s a study performed yearly by InsWeb and the results have been detailed in a company press release.

The states are ranked on an affordability factor.  It is not simply how expensive car insurance rates are that is taken into effect for the rankings.  They also look at the median income of residents in the state.  The median car insurance rate is divided by the median household income to determine each state’s affordability factor.  Many studies compare the car insurance rates and rank the most expensive to the least, but InsWeb’s study helps us understand how much of our budget is going towards car insurance.  Finding cheap car insurance relative to your income is easiest in Massachusetts and most difficult in Louisiana.

After Massachusetts, the remaining top ten states for most affordable car insurance in order are Hawaii, Minnesota, North Carolina, Utah, Wisconsin, Iowa, Idaho, Ohio, and Vermont.  Companies like Allmerica car insurance offer rates that are low in comparison to median salaries in these areas for many different reasons.  The ten states with the worst affordability factors following Louisiana in the 51st spot are Washington D.C., West Virginia, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Kentucky, Rhode Island, Arizona, New York, and Florida.

Compare Static Caravan Insurance

Posted by Justin Stewart On May - 3 - 2011

Whenever you’re looking to invest in caravan insurance, you need to bear in mind one simple point – compare all the options. Performing adequate comparisons can mean the difference between having the cover that you’re looking for and being bitterly disappointed should the worst happen, so you always need to compare static caravan insurance policies if you want to be confident in your choice.

But just what do you need to be looking for when you’re comparing them? Because it’s for a static caravan your considerations will be slightly different than if it was a tourer. You need to think more about threats from the weather, the campsite itself and opportunistic thieves, and you need to be clear on the exclusions as well as what each policy covers when you’re not using your caravan.

Consider contents cover too (a must with the possessions on caravans being increasingly expensive) and any extras that can be included, and always see what discounts can be offered for things like security devices. Of course,

Ala. Insurers Told to Provide Payment Grace Period After Storms

Posted by Ryan Baker On April - 30 - 2011

In the wake of the massive storms that have hit the South, insurance commissioners across the region are issuing advisories to insurers and policyholders on how to take the necessary steps to get back on their feet after being hit with catastrophic damages.

Alabama Insurance Commissioner Jim Ridling instructed coverage providers on Thursday to give consumers affected by the storms 30-day grace period on premium payments, since tornadoes that touched down on Wednesday have caused disruption of mail service and may cause extended power outages.

Many Alabama consumers will have great difficulty paying premiums on time, Ridling said in an announcement. He emphasized that this does not, however, erase policyholders financial obligation to their coverage providers.

A number of insurers are dispatching extra representatives to affected states in order to help handle the additional claims load.

Missouri regulators have advised consumers that insurers should send representatives to inspect their property and that these representatives should have proper identification.

Esurance auto insurance has been an industry leader for over a decade, and they have customer service representatives standing by to help policy holders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  They focus on the ease of purchasing insurance through their online insurance website and have been one of the most innovative insurance companies for utilizing the internet.  However, they also have qualified insurance representatives available by phone for when direct help is needed.

The History of Esurance

Esurance auto insurance began with only 4 states back in 1999.  They focused on the internet as their medium for supplying customers with quality insurance products.  Today they are one of the top auto insurance suppliers and they offer coverage to over 90% of the population.  They cover 22 states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.  In the future, they are looking to expand into more locations.

No-Fault Payouts from Car Insurance Companies

According to the Rochester Homepage in New York, lawmakers in the state are working to crack down on fraudulent no-fault car insurance claims.  This is good news for car insurance companies, especially those dealing with fraud related to no-fault car insurance claims.  After a car accident, no-fault insurance allows drivers to be paid out even though the blame for the car accident is not placed on either driver.  Unfortunately, New York state lawmakers say that there are a lot of fraudulent claims being paid out and that New Yorkers are paying millions of dollars a year for these fraudulent no-fault claims.

Some criminals actually create car accidents so that they can file a no-fault insurance claim with their car insurer.  Insurance companies like Infinity auto insurance are obviously not happy about that and will be pleased to see lawmakers help cut down on false claims.  Lawmakers have already made it a felony to cause a car accident intentionally, the first step in cutting out this fraud.  Even though there aren’t that many people filing fraudulent claims, it really does effect everyone because it causes car insurance rates to increase.  Lawmakers hope to find a way to cut down on this expensive fraud very soon.
