In nearly every jurisdiction in the ‘developed’ world, there exists legislation providing that a driver must have taken out cover for his or her potential liability to other people as a result of his or her negligence. Minimum standards for such cover will be part of such laws, and it must of course be valid and up to date at all times when the driver takes to the wheel.
In some parts of the world, notably the United States, there is a widespread feeling that government should not concern itself with the decisions made by private citizens. Most would say that there has to be some such involvement, simply to regulate relations between citizens so that gross injustices cannot occur without redress. There are those who think that any such regulation is unwarranted but these are in the minority, even in the United States. Most, while complaining about the ‘nanny state’ would still accept that sometimes the nanny in question does know best.
There is probably a consensus in the case of car liability insurance, that the laws making it a legal requirement do not represent excessive interference. Insuran Full Article…
