Save Money by Putting Multiple Cars on one Insurance Policy

Posted by Brandon Peterson On February - 26 - 2011

Saving money on automobile insurance is easy when you put multiple vehicles on one auto insurance policy.   Not all insurance companies offer this type of “bundling,” but if the insurance company provides a multi car discount, the savings can be significant.  Occasionally it will even cost less to insure two cars than it would cost to insure one.   However, more frequently the savings are between 15 and 25 percent.

Multiple Car Discount Benefits

There are several benefits to having a multiple car insurance policy discount.  The main reason to take advantage of this type of discount is the premium savings.  This bulk insurance means that the more cars that are insured the more cost savings the policy holder will receive.  Another reason to take advantage of this is that all cars will be on a policy that renews at the same time.  This makes the renewal process easier and consumers do not need to wait until a vehicle is due for renewal to add it.  It also is more convenient when there are multiple drivers in the household.

Adding and Removing Cars

When there is a multiple car insurance policy adding and removing vehicles is easy.  In the case of divorce, trade or purchasing a new vehicle, all the policy holder needs to do is contact the company and change the insurance coverage to reflect the new situation.  If there are already multiple policies in place, combining policies requires you to mail or fax the policy declaration sheet to the new insurance company that is offering the multiple car discount.

Requirements for a Multiple Car Discount

Most insurance companies have a few requirements for getting a multiple car discount.  They may require that the people who are requesting the discount be married or in a state recognized civil union or the dependents of one of those unions.  Domestic partnerships often do not receive a multi car discount, although some companies do allow this.   Some policies a

About The Canadian Auto Insurance Policy

Posted by Brandon Peterson On July - 27 - 2010

If you drive a vehicle in Canada, you need a Canadian auto insurance policy, to legally drive in this country. Depending on the province you are driving in, you will have to have certain types of insurance which will be listed on your insurance card that you should carry with you at all times when driving. This is a pink card that shows that you have bought auto insurance somewhere in Canada.

You will need to show this when driving in the province you bought insurance in, and all other Canadian provinces you plan to drive. In some parts of the country you will not be able to register your vehicle with the motor vehicles department until you show proof of insurance and in some provinces, the government covers the basic insurance requirements for your vehicle. But in these provinces you can still buy extra insurance through the governmental insurance agency or a private insurance company.

In some provinces in Canada, the government handles injury claims while allowing private insurance companies to handle property damage claims.

How to Build an Auto Insurance Policy

Posted by admin On February - 21 - 2010
  • Step 1

The first step in building a car insurance policy is to get quotes. This can be done online by visiting any major insurance agency’s website, and filling out specific information. Repeat this process at other insurance companies’ websites to find which ones offer the best quotes. Then, think about ways to save money on auto insurance by playing with the deductible, and also consider additional types of coverage.

  • Step 2

Try setting different valued deductibles while receiving free auto insurance quotes online. The deductible value (the amount that the client is responsible for upon a claim before insurance kicks in) directly effects monthly premiums. Setting a high deductible will lower monthly premiums, but if you require coverage because of an at-fault accident, then a higher amount of money will be issued by you before the insurance company pays anything. Conversely, with a low deductible value, you will not pay as much upon a claim, but premiums will be higher, and they will likely increase with each accident or claim.

Reforms In Michigan’s Auto Reform Policy Sought

    Posted by admin On January - 18 - 2010

In Michigan, efforts are being made by insurance advocates to change the State’s long-standing auto insurance policy. Dr. Robert Hartwig is one of these people.

Hartwig, a medical doctor by profession, is also the president of the Insurance Information Institute. In his speech presented to the members of the Michigan House Committee, he testified that the “no-fault” system is what causes Michigan’s car insurance costs to increase.

A no-fault system is any type of contract by which the insured is indemnified for losses by their own insurer irrespective of who is at fault, or who had generated the damage or loss.

He stressed that there are no other states or locality in the US other than Michigan which offers unlimited no-fault benefits. Furthermore, these unlimited benefits are being translated into unlimited costs.

While other states are also increasing their policy rates, the factors which affect Michigan are also the same with the exception that there is virtually an unlimited source of funding for no-fault claims.

He declared that while this is happening, step-up in costs could be attributed to system operations which he claims as not having an efficient system of checks and balances. Contrar

Does Your Teenager Have to Be on Your Auto Insurance Policy?

    Posted by admin On December - 4 - 2009

My teenage son is about to get his first car. Should I add him to my insurance policy or get him his own?

The white-knuckles, the sweat on your upper lip, the heart palpitations, and the visions of your life flashing before your eyes. Congratulations you have a teenager and it’s time to teach them how to drive. The horror doesn’t stop, however with those first experiences in the car with them, when you notify your insurance company (and yes, you’d better notify your insurance company) that you have a teenage driver, you can expect your rates to increase between 50% to 100%. Then the real sweating begins.

Find Cheap Rates for Your Teen

Well, the fact of the matter is, that insuring a teenager isn’t cheap no matter what you do. Of course rates vary from insurer to insurer and you would do well – very well – to shop around outside your current carrier to find the best car insurance rates for insuring your teenager, but there are some things you can do to mitigate the pain of paying for that statistical probability that makes your teen such a high risk:

Choose their car carefully: It’s more or less a given that your teenager is going to want a car that is sporty, fast, good-looking and expensive. Whether or no Full Article…
